Diesel tank cleaning: BRL-K905

Diesel tank cleaning is a specialist job that must be carried out in accordance with the BRL-K905 guidelines. Thanks to the professional approach of our certified specialists, who work with SIR approved equipment (the Industrial Cleaning Foundation), safety for people and the environment is guaranteed.

Tank cleaning procedure according to BRL-K905

The procedure for on-site tank cleaning, goes through the following four phases:

Tank registration

Wenau registers the cleaning procedure and arranges all the paperwork involved in cleaning a diesel tank;

Emptying the tank

All fluids and/or residue are carefully removed, then disposed of. The diesel tank is thoroughly checked for sludge. If found, we dispose of it according to official KIWA guidelines and it is destroyed;

Tank cleaning

Wenau cleans the tank completely with an appropriate cleaning agent matched to the substance that has been in the tank. For accurate cleaning, Wenau can enter the tank, or use one of the less-entry or non-entry solutions.

Disposal or reuse

When the tank cleaning procedure is completed, a cleaning certificate is issued immediately. This cleaning certificate proves that the tank was cleaned in a responsible, legal and, above all, safe manner. If the liquids and/or residues found cannot be reused, we dispose of them according to the applicable guidelines.

Tank remediation

Remediation of a tank is also part of the services offered by Wenau. After cleaning the tank, it is decontaminated and then transported to an approved processing company. Remediation of a tank is carried out in accordance with KIWA guidelines, distinguishing between BRL-K902 and BRL-K904.

Tank remediation BRL-K902

Tank remediation according to the BRL-K902 certificate focuses on the remediation and decommissioning of tanks. It concerns tanks that have contained heating oil, gas oil, diesel, fuel, motor oil, water or domestic wastewater.

What does the tank remediation procedure look like?

The BRL-K902 procedure consists of four steps, which Wenau supplements when in order to offer a total care package:

Exploratory soil analysis

A soil analysis reveals whether the soil is contaminated. Substances contained in the tank can be harmful to humans and the environment, so it is important that these substances do not end up in the soil;

Registration with the corresponding authority

Wenau arranges the necessary paperwork and registers the tank remediation with the authorities;

Excavation of the tank

Following approval from the soil analysis, the work starts and the tank is excavated. Once safety is established, the tank is opened via the manhole cover and the tank is cleaned;

Cleaning and remediation of the tank

After cleaning the tank Wenau performs necessary checks such as determining the condition of the tank. If the tank is found to be completely clean, a cleaning certificate is issued. The released waste materials are transported to an approved processor and the (underground) tank is immediately taken away for scrapping.

Tanksanering BRL-K904

The decommissioning of old, worn and/or contaminated above-ground and underground storage tanks is regulated under the guidelines of the BRL-K904 certificate. These tanks contain substances that pose (major) risks to people and the environment, such as diesel oil, petrol, oil, solvents, liquid synthetic resins and corrosive substances.

What does the tank remediation procedure look like?

Tank cleaning and decontamination according to BRL-K904 consists of five essential steps:

Exploratory soil analysis

A soil analysis reveals whether the soil is contaminated. Substances contained in the tank can be harmful to humans and the environment, so it is important that these substances do not end up in the soil;

Registration with the corresponding authority

Wenau arranges the necessary paperwork and registers the tank remediation with the authorities;

Excavation of the tank

Following approval from the soil analysis, the work starts and the tank is excavated. Once safety is established, the tank is opened via the manhole cover and the tank is cleaned;

Tank cleaning

During this step, the inside of the tank is cleaned. Released waste materials are disposed of to an authorized processor, and a spotless tank is delivered after our work. Wenau immediately draws up a cleaning certificate, so the tank is demonstrably cleaned according to the applicable guidelines on safety, methods and quality;

Tank remediation

The final step of the tank remediation process is the remediation itself. After cleaning, we dispose of the tank. We prepare a tank remediation certificate for you so that you have proof of the remediation.
